"To the Netherworld" merges Chinese funeral customs with modern critiques, showcasing the enduring link between the realms of yin and yang as more than a passage for expressing loss—it's a canvas reflecting our desires and societal norms. I reimagines these rituals to spotlight issues like materialism and gender roles, creating offerings that symbolize concerns from reproductive rights to consumerism. By inviting audiences to "send" these issues to the netherworld through ceremonial burning, This work satirically confronts societal challenges, suggesting both reflection and liberation. This project is a poignant blend of reverence for tradition and scrutiny of contemporary issues, encouraging deep engagement with pressing societal dilemmas.
